I offer relationship-focused therapy to help individuals and couples feel happy, healthy, and whole again. Maybe you’re dealing with a painful breakup, experiencing tension with a family member, friend or co-worker, or just feel lonely and long for more intimacy and connection. Or perhaps you and your partner are stuck in a pattern of arguing or distancing that is leaving you feeling angry, resentful, hurt, or exhausted.

PHILOSOPHY OF TREATMENT

As a psychologist, I have the privilege of guiding clients on their journeys of self-discovery and growth.  These paths are co-created by my clients and myself, and I travel different paths with different clients depending on their goals and needs.  On these journeys, I take all of the knowledge, skills, and artfulness that my training and experience have given me.   My goal is to create a safe place for people to explore, heal, and/or resolve issues that cause suffering.  Some journeys are short and some are long.  Some are painless and some are painful.  Regardless of the paths we take, the journeys and the relationships that get formed along the way are meaningful, therapeutic, and memorable.

I am Clinical Psychologist Resident in Oregon and I have worked as a mental health therapist since 2006.  I provide services to individuals, couples and groups. I received a doctorate in clinical psychology from Pacific University, an APA accredited program, in 2011. I completed my pre-doctoral internship at the Mental Health Association of Westchester in Westchester County, New York in 2011.  I am currently a resident at Quest Center for Integrative Health and an adjunct faculty at the School of Professional Psychology at Pacific University.
My training in contemporary Gestalt therapy has been especially valuable in working with people who are managing depression, anxiety, addiction and health issues, as well as with individuals struggling with their sexual and gender identity. I believe that all people are fundamentally oriented towards healthy functioning.  By reviving the natural process of self regulation, individuals can experience relief from symptoms related to depression, anxiety, trauma, and addictions.  However, more than just symptom relief, I believe individuals are capable creating value from troublesome experiences and living fulfilling lives.  I have focused on providing competent mental health services to the LGBTQ community in Portland since 2007.

INSURANCE ACCEPTED/INSURANCE PANEL MEMBERSHIPS: I am happy to bill insurance as an out of network provider.

PERSONAL STATEMENT: (EG AREAS OF INTEREST, TYPES OF CLIENTS PREFERRED, ETC.) Therapy works, it really does. With the right therapist, it can be collaborative, creative, and life changing. It can help with acute problems or long-standing issues. In order to make therapy as meaningful as possible, I strive to see and hear all of what makes a person who they are. To do this, I attend to past and present circumstances, thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and the body. I shape my therapeutic approach to my clients' goals and needs. In session, this can range from straightforward problem-solving to exploring long-term patterns and chronic issues.

In my view, people are naturally vibrant and healthy. However, our access to that vibrancy often becomes blocked as we are forced to adjust to life’s challenges. As a result, we are left with feelings of sadness, anger, fear, anxiety, emptiness, and loneliness. Sometimes these problems also manifest themselves in our bodies and in the way we move or breathe. I work to help people gain clarity into how and why they have lost access to meaningful parts of themselves and move towards a life that feels more connected and alive.

The therapeutic relationship is an important tool for self-discovery, transition, personal growth, and celebration. As a therapist, I work closely with my individual clients and couples to loosen the binds of repeating unhelpful patterns and make clarity a reality in their own lives.

When working with families, I integrate the need for the structure of the family to support the challenges of developing through adolescence. I work with parents to regain composure, a sense of control, and the ability encourage their teens to mature confidently.

within ourselves and our lives. My goal as a  therapist is to learn about who you are, to help you
identify the patterns within you that both help and hinder you in relating to yourself , others, and in
areas of your  life. Through looking at your present needs and identifying  limiting patterns, we
collaboratively begin to create pathways to deeper connection and understanding of yourself.  Often
there is a struggle with childhood and cultural conditioning, and this may hold us back from fuller,
more joyful living. I provide an environment of respect and compassion. The process of identifying and
building upon your personal strengths is foundational to our work.
